Name: William Hints
Experience: 3 years riding club runs, sportives and enjoying the bike. Last 5 months training to Spot-on Coaching plans after attending the February 17 Majorca training camp.
Racing: This has been my first year of competitive racing. I’ve enjoyed it, but it has been an eye opener to the speed I need to find to become more competitive.
Category: 4th cat/ Junior (can ride in under18 or mens 4th cat with restricted gears).
Team/Club: Race in Ludlow Brewery Race Team kit, attend Herefordshire CC sessions, and train under Spot-On Coaching.
Bikes: I love bikes so there’s a few, and always room for some more.
Training bike: S-Works Tarmac SL4 with Campagnolo Chorus Group, Zipp 202’s.
Crit/race bike: Merida Scultura 905 Special Edition with Campagnolo Athena group set, Fulcrum Red wing 50mm wheels.
TT Bike: Planet X Exocet 2 with Sram red Groupset, Corima Carbone Disc wheel and a Planet X 82 Pro Carbon up front, both Tubular.
Disciplines: Criteriums, Road races, Time Trials including Hill Time Trials.
Results: It’s been a tough year starting Criteriums and road races at under 18, most of my competitors have come up through years of youth racing. I competed regularly at Odd Down circuit in Bath this season in a Sulis Scorpion series. My speed and reaction to attacks improved with every race, next year I’ll be better prepared.
My TT results have been great, I’m regularly getting PB’s and finishing top junior in the series I compete in, next season I intend on improving further and giving the top men a run for their money on every course.
I competed in a few Hill climb races, I won the overall at Haugh Wood which was superb and a true highlight. I then competed in Capler the following week securing a top 10,on a shorter steeper course that really doesn’t suit my style of riding.
10mile TT PB: 22.50 Brimfield course.
Aspirations: I’d love to ride for a Professional Cycling Team, that’s the dream, I think to race and train all over the world would be amazing.
Being trained by what I call the best, is amazing! Knowing you have this person’s professional advice and attention gives me so much confidence and determination to train hard, and giving everything I have. Without Jonty’s help I wouldn’t be taking steps towards my dream. I get inspired by seeing the constant improvement in my performances. The weekly training plans I receive, constantly move me forward to the next level, weaknesses are becoming strengths, I’m shaping my physique into what is required to be a Professional cyclist. I enjoy the structure and variety it brings to my riding week, exercises on and off the bike to develop my techniques. Before I joined Spot On Coaching and attended the camp, I thought it was all about riding miles, now I’m learning what to eat, what not to eat, how to get the best out of my body. I’m extremely proud to say I’m part of the Spot On Coaching Team of riders and am looking forward to the February Training camp in Majorca. In 2018 with confidence “I expect to be at a higher level. Bring it on”!
